Govt extends SBI MD Ashwini Tewari’s tenure for second time

The government has extended the tenure of Ashwini Kumar Tewari as managing director of State Bank of India (SBI) for another two years.
This is the second time that Tewari, the seniormost MD at SBI, has got a two-year extension. His new tenure will be until 31 December 2027, the date of his superannuation. His earlier notified term was ending on 27 January 2026.
Tewari, who was appointed as MD of SBI in January 2021 for an initial three-year term, currently oversees corporate banking and subsidiaries at SBI.
Prior to that, he was serving as managing director and CEO of SBI Cards and Payment Services. Joining SBI as a probabtionary officer in 1991, he has over three decades of experience with the bank. He has earlier served as the country head of the bank's US operations and has held senior leadership roles in international banking across East Asia.
